SHPE workshop at Stevens Institute of Technology - "How to Sell Yourself in 30 seconds"

The Stevens Institute of Technology SHPE Chapter (stevens.edu/shpe) invited the SHPE Professional chapter to deliver the workshop “How to sell yourself in 30 seconds.” The event took place on October 13th, 2010. Natalie Gil, a member who currently works at Goldman Sachs took the opportunity. The workshop started with a brief presentation about the “Elevator Pitch”. It highlighted the importance of preparation of both content and delivery, focusing on the target audience.

After the review, the students practiced one by one. They first framed a situation and then delivered the pitch. Later they received feedback from the audience and the expositor. Students were looking forward to attending the SHPE Annual Conference so they got a set of tools to make a more effective, quick introduction. Below is an excerpt from Natalie's presentation:
"Since there are only 30 seconds to catch the audience (mostly one to one); information should be relevant to them and to the situation –career fair, networking event, interview start. Content should be complemented with self confidence, enthusiasm, a good handshake, and eye contact to generate better attention."

Thanks again Natalie!
